boob nests series
Artist Statement:
These pieces started simply as pinch pots, a way for me to create once again after a dormant period during fertility treatments and my first pregnancy. My goal was just one a day, during
nap time, until my bag of clay ran out. I was a newly nursing mother and it was all about the boob, watching what I ate or drank, sensing "let down" and nourishing my baby. So, it was an easy conversion to go from pot to boob; a small manipulation for the nipple and voila, a boob was born. Later, the nests were made and assembled with my motherhood detritus, fertility drug paraphernalia, receiving blankets, breast pads among other bits and pieces. Getting pregnant and then being able to nurse were major triumphs after being told it would never happen. These pieces are in celebration of the brutal yet beautiful experience of motherhood.
